Description

We have called this a ‘Celtic Triple Spiral’, but we like to think of this as the definitive Neolithic Spiral design. Based on Newgrange triple spirals, and distilled to their pure essense with a single fixed width line tracing out the design. Lovingly created from first principles, special care has been taken to ensure the line thickness perfectly matches the negative space between the lines, and the design is rotated slightly to reflect the original orientation of the iconic Newgrange spirals.

We have created three variations – this one is variant number 2. You can see the others in the mazes and spirals section.

The triple spiral pattern appears on many ancient artefacts, from the Neolithic period (iconic examples can be seen at Newgrange in Ireland) to later Iron Age cultures, in particular the La Tène style of Celtic art.

The triple spiral (or the triskelion, which sometimes shows three bent, interconnected human legs) signifies the interconnectedness of life, death, and rebirth, encapsulating the cyclical nature of existence. The triskelion’s presence in ancient cultures like those of Greece, Sicily, and Brittany underscores its universality, symbolizing cosmic forces and cosmic order. As a spiritual symbol, the triskelion invites contemplation of the rhythms and cycles that shape our reality, inspiring individuals to find harmony amidst life’s perpetual changes.
