Description
The Chalice Well, also called the Red Spring, is a sacred well located near Glastonbury Tor in Somerset, England. It holds deep mythological significance, associated with Welsh and Irish folklore as a gateway between realms.
The well cover, designed by Frederick Bligh Bond, is over a hundred years old. The design features the interlocking circles of the Vesica Piscis, with a spear or sword referencing King Arthur’s Excalibur. Christian mythology links the well to Joseph of Arimathea, who supposedly placed there the Holy Grail – the chalice that caught the blood of Christ at the Crucifuxion.
