Privacy Policy

Summary:

Since May 2018 (General Data Protection Regulation, or ‘GDPR’) businesses are required to be fully transparent about how they are using personal data. This Privacy Policy describes how and when we collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from eldonthreads.com, contact us, or otherwise use our sites and services.

In brief – we collect and store some information when you make a purchase from this site, so we can fulfil your order and send you emails relating to your purchase. This site also uses ‘cookies’ for some site functionality (for example, the shopping cart). We also use Wordfence to help us maintain security, and (although we don’t currently, we may in the future) use Google Analytics to analyse our site performance, and Facebook integration. This Privacy Policy is provided to the best of our knowledge and in good faith, and we retain the right to amend this document if and when necessary.

Information we collect:

The Eldon Threads shop is powered by WooCommerce. When you use the Eldon Threads website we’ll track:

  • Location, IP address and browser type: we’ll use this for purposes like estimating taxes and shipping
  • Shipping address: we’ll ask you to enter this so we can, for instance, estimate shipping before you place an order, and send you the order!

We’ll also use cookies to keep track of cart contents while you’re browsing our site.

When you purchase from us, we’ll ask you to provide information including your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, credit card/payment details and optional account information like username and password. We’ll use this information for purposes, such as, to:

  • Send you information about your account and order
  • Respond to your requests, including refunds and complaints
  • Process payments and prevent fraud
  • Set up your account for our store
  • Comply with any legal obligations we have, such as calculating taxes
  • Improve our store offerings
  • Send you marketing messages, if you choose to receive them

We use Stripe as our payment gateway. You can read Stripe’s privacy policy here https://stripe.com/gb/privacy

The actual orders themselves are fulfilled by Printful. They will obviously need the information you have provided (name, shipping address etc) in order to fulfil the order. You can read Printful’s privacy policy here https://www.printful.com/policies/privacy

Members of our team have access to the information you provide us. For example, both Administrators and Shop Managers can access:

  • Order information like what was purchased, when it was purchased and where it should be sent, and
  • Customer information like your name, email address, and billing and shipping information.

Our team members have access to this information to help fulfill orders, process refunds and support you.

Why we need your information:

We rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:

1) To provide and improve our services, such as when we use your information to fulfil your order, or to provide customer support.
2) When you have provided your affirmative consent (which you may revoke at any time) such as by signing up for a Newsletter (we don’t currently have a Newsletter though).
3) To assess and monitor the security of our website to ensure data breaches do not occur.
4) When necessary to comply with a legal obligation, such as retaining information about your purchases as required by tax law.

Use of Data:

Some data is used so that the online shopping cart and checkout work properly. In particular, this site uses ‘Cookies’ to record session information on the device you are using to access our website. These cookies might, for example, keep a track of the contents of your shopping cart, or store the product that you are currently purchasing.

Naturally enough, if you make a purchase, your name and email address, and the name of the product you purchased, are stored so you can be notified of your order.

Some data is also used for to help us analyse site performance, maintain site security, and fraud prevention.

Data Collection and Storage:

Some data (including for example, confirmation of orders received by us in email form) will be stored securely online with our website host, Blacknight Internet Solutions Ltd (IE).

Any purchase data stored by Printful and their partners is stored by them in order to operate their service.

Information is also stored by the payment gateways (PayPal, Stripe) when transactions are processed by them.

Information Sharing and Disclosure:

Information about our customers is important to our business. We share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:

1) Service providers:
We engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to our site, such as payment processing (PayPal, and Stripe), web analytics (Google), Facebook integration (Facebook), and site security (Wordfence). Your information is shared with these third parties and their hosting partners, only to the extent necessary to perform these functions and services.

2) Business transfers:
If we sell or merge our business, we may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law.

3) Compliance with laws:

Retention:

We are required by EU law to retain some information (for example, evidence of buyer location for the purposes of EU VAT charging) for 10 years. We can’t imagine needing to keep any other data any longer than that.
