This image purports to show one of the original \"hieroglyphical figures\" Flamel discovered.<\/p><p>Nicolas Flamel\u2019s famous alchemical work, <em>Le Livre des Figures Hi\u00e9roglyphiques (The Book of Hieroglyphic Figures)<\/em> says :<\/p><p><strong>\"Look well upon these <em>two Dragons<\/em>, for they are the true principles or beginnings of this <em>Philosophy<\/em>, which the <em>sages<\/em> have not dared to show to their own children. He which is undermost without wings, he is the <em>fixed<\/em> or the <em>male<\/em>, that which is uppermost is the <em>volatile<\/em>, or the <em>female<\/em>. The first is called <em>Sulphur<\/em>, or heat and dryness; and the latter <em>Argent vive<\/em>, or cold and moisture, these are the <em>Sun<\/em> and the <em>Moon<\/em> of the <em>Mercurial<\/em> source, and <em>sulphurous original<\/em>, which by continual fire, are adorned with <em>royal<\/em> habilaments; that being united and afterwards changed into a <em>quintessence<\/em>, they may overcome everything <em>Metallic<\/em>, how solid, hard and strong soever it be.
