Usually depicted with a curved body, long jaws, and a distinctive crest, it often appears to be shown in motion, as if swimming. Although its meaning remains uncertain, it has been interpreted as a marine animal such as a dolphin or whale, possibly inspired by creatures seen along the Scottish coast, or as a creature of myth. In either case the Beast was clearly an important symbol for the Picts.

This design is based on the beautiful example on the Strathmartine Castle Stone - a Class I Pictish Stone from Angus, now on display at the McManus Galleries in Dundee.

Pictish Stones are carved stones created by the ancient Picts in north-east Scotland between the 6th and 9th centuries, decorated with distinctive sy...
["organic-icon.png","low-carbon-icon.png","ethical-icon.png
Printed T-shirt
Certified organic cotton top, 155 gsm.
