The Pictish Beast<\/strong> appears exclusively on Pictish stones and is among the most common animal symbols in Pictish art. Usually depicted with a curved body, long jaws, and a distinctive crest, it often appears to be shown in motion, as if swimming. Although its meaning remains uncertain, it has been interpreted as a marine animal such as a dolphin or whale, possibly inspired by creatures seen along the Scottish coast, or as a creature of myth.
