Newgrange Dreaming<\/h3>

Newgrange Dreaming<\/em> (2026) is a 24\" x 48\" (60.96 cm x 121.92 cm) oil painting depicting geometric patterns and planets rising above the massive monument. The mound is reflected in a dark expanse. While water does not closely border Newgrange today, 5,000 years ago there could have been ancient waterways. The reflection additionally suggests the Hermetic axiom \u201cas above so below\u201d.<\/p>

\"'NewgrangeStone Age builders, carvers, and dreamers who created Newgrange possessed a deep reverence for cosmic movements, which undoubtedly shaped their sense of self. Perhaps the beauty and order of the cosmos gave them pride, identity, and a sense of significance. This painting seeks to visually bridge those realms, showing cosmic order reaching down to the earthly plane and connecting humanity to a vast universe. Alternatively, it represents humans connecting to the cosmos or spirit world via the shaft of light streaming into the inner chamber during the Winter Solstice. It seems that through monument building and sacred ritual people were acknowledging and participating in the renewal of the seasons and the cycles of life. I work both intuitively and rationally to create art that suggests higher realms of reality and attempts to elevates the viewer's spirit. Away from the city lights standing under the night sky continues to fill us with awe. By renewing our appreciation for the cosmos and cycle of life, we can restore our admiration for the universe - and, in turn, revive our own sense of pride, identity, and purpose.<\/p>

About Brian Keane<\/h3>

I am a Chicago-based artist of Irish descent, living in the city with my wife and two young daughters. My grandparents emigrated from Kilkee, Kilrush (Co. Clare), Ballybunion, and Listowel (Co. Kerry) in their late teens, eventually meeting at county dances here in Chicago. My Irish Catholic upbringing and inquisitive nature, left me seeking to have deeper understanding of perennial questions. I enjoy learning about history and spirituality especially when connected to my Irish heritage. I feel deeply connected to the megalithic art of the British Isles and Celtic designs illustrated by early Christian monks.<\/p>

\"ArtToday, my worldview is powerfully influenced by mystical thinkers within and outside the Christian tradition. Reading and reflecting on ideas that possess depth generates inspiration for new projects. I love the word inspiration, thinking of its literal meaning: to breathe in spirit. Working with this in mind I combine intuitive, automatic methods with reason and reflection attempting to act as a conduit for what the unconscious or the universe seeks to express. In our current analytical and utilitarian era, I believe the pendulum needs to swing back toward spirit, beauty, poetry, and humanism. I have encountered several thinkers who view this moment as ripe for a new cultural Renaissance, and I hope to contribute to that shift.<\/p>

\"ArtOn a local level, I maintain a mini-gallery on a post in my front lawn and one at my wife\u2019s business, built on the belief that grassroots support for art and beauty can help seed a burgeoning movement. May we all work toward reawakening beauty, intuition and human dignity inspired by appreciation for our position within the expansive, creative and awesome unfolding of reality.<\/p>
